Learning outcomes The learning objectives of this curricular unit aim to develop essential competences in the process of scientific research, from understanding its foundations and the scientific method to its practical application in academic and professional contexts. Students should be able to search for, critically analyse, and communicate scientific information with rigour, ethics, and clarity. These objectives are aligned with active teaching methods that combine theoretical–practical classes, guided research, article analysis, academic writing, and the simulation of scientific paper submission. The methodology promotes learning through practice, collaborative work, and critical reflection, ensuring coherence between teaching and the competences to be developed in research, communication, and scientific integrity.
Syllabus I – Fundamentals of Scientific Research and the Scientific Method: concept of science and research applied to Industrial Chemistry; principles of the scientific method and stages of the research process.
II – Research and Scientific Writing Methodologies: bibliographic research in scientific databases (Scopus, Web of Science); search strategies and reference management (Mendeley); criteria for selecting and evaluating scientific articles; structure and writing of articles, reports, and dissertations; academic writing and citation standards.
III – Strategies for Scientific Communication: preparation and presentation of posters and oral communications; critical analysis of scientific articles; preparation and defence of posters in a seminar context.
IV – Scientific Publication Process: preparation of a bibliographic review (mini-review article); simulation of submission to scientific journals; compliance with author guidelines; selection of journals and reviewers;
Teaching Methodologies and Assessment Criteria Teaching activities are divided into theoretical and theoretical-practical classes, taught in classrooms equipped with computers and multimedia facilities. Part of the lectures may be devoted to Seminars.
The teaching-learning activities are mostly self-learning, since the theme to be developed by each student is different. In these sessions, the teacher guides the students in researching the relevant information to the issue of interest.
Other classes are of explanatory nature, and information about rules for the oral presentations, to all kinds of audience, is provided to the students. The general rules for the preparation of reports and monographs is also presented.
All the classes are interactive, and students are constantly invited to give their opinion about the subject being presented and about the performance of their colleagues.

Evaluation consists on the presentation (as monography or poster) and discussion of the scientific subject of recent research presented.
