The Dublin Institute of Technology, in conjunction with its project partners, is organising the first annual European Student Enterprise Competition as part of an EU funded initiative to promote and encourage the use of case studies as a teaching method for business third-level students. The European Student Enterprise Competition is a student-orientated case study competition aimed at developing and improving students’ understanding of entrepreneurship. Its objective is to bring a taste of real-life business into the third level student experience, and to bridge the gap between theory and practice. This case competition creates a practical action-orientated approach to learning, where information and knowledge are generated, and a greater understanding of the overall concepts of entrepreneurship is developed by participating students.

The competition invites all third-level institutions throughout the Europe Economic Area (EEA) to enter a single team. In order to enter the European Student Enterprise Competition you should simply do the
following:
·         The team must consist of four (only teams of 4 allowed, not 3 or 5) undergraduate students and must be under the supervision of a faculty advisor who will act as team coach;
·         Submit a 1,500 word analysis of the attached case study which must be received by Dr Thomas Cooney in Dublin Institute of Technology by 5.00pm Friday January 7th 2011 via email (thomas.cooney@dit.ie);
·         Complete the application form (reference http://eecsrc.eu/case-study-competition/registration/);
·         The best seven teams, plus the host team, will be invited to participate in the Grand Final Championship Rounds in Dublin (Ireland). During the Grand Finals, a week of league based match-ups, the students’ work their way through a variety of cases until two finalists emerge;
·         The Grand Final will take place the week beginning March 14th 2011 (St Patrick’s Day is March 17th);
·         Please note that the costs (i.e. travel and accommodation) for all finalists MUST be covered by their own institution.

Further information about the European Student Enterprise Competition is available on the European Entrepreneurship Case Study Resource Centre website www.eecsrc.eu in the ‘Case Study Competition’ section or you can contact the Project Manager Jennifer Manning at jennifer.manning@dit.ie.
