Until January 31st, one post-doctoral fellowship (Research Group on Competitiveness) is available at the Research Unit on Governance, Competitiveness and Public Policies UI4058 - Pest-C/CJP/UI4058/2011 (GOVCOPP 9/2011) of the University of Aveiro, Portugal, financed by national funds through FCT/MCTES (PIDDAC) and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the COMPETE - Operational Programme Thematic Factors of Competitiveness (POFC).

- Scientific Area: Economics and Business

- Admission requirements The candidate:
(a) must have strong research skills and a record of relevant publications in the field of Economics or Business, with expertise in international business (experience in either entrepreneurship or internationalization of high tech firms will be highly valued)
(b) should have a recent (less than five years) Ph.D. degree [or should prove that the Ph.D. degree will be received until the end of February 2012]
(c)should demonstrate his/her proficiency in performing the tasks portrayed in the job description, namely providing evidence of internationally-recognised research capability, an emerging publication record, and a demonstrable interest in interdisciplinary research;
(d) must have a good command of English.

- Job description: We expect the postdoctoral fellow to achieve the goals expressed in the strategic plan of the Research Unit.The postdoctoral fellow will work in collaboration with other members of the research group. Our high-quality research meets the needs of academics, policy-makers and practitioners at the international and national level. We are committed to providing a strong and vibrant link between academic research and the needs of the research user. Unit members are regular presenters at a range of academic and policy conferences and are at the forefront of academic and policy debates.Additionally, the successful applicant will be responsible for developing a research program, and assisting the Research Unit. The postdoctoral fellow may, also, collaborate with our graduate courses and must contribute to develop funding proposals, and write articles for publication in peer-reviewed journals. The fellow will be expected to be in residence at Portugal for the academic year and, in addition to performing other related duties as assigned, to take a leadership role in Centre conferences and workshops.

- Legislation and regulations: Scientific Research Fellowship Statute-Law (Decree 40/2004, 18th of August); Regulation for Advanced Training and Qualification of Human Resources 2011 and the Scientific Research Fellowship Regulation of the University of Aveiro - Regulation No. 341/2011, Diário da República, 2nd series, nº. 98, 20th of May.

- Workplace: Unit on Governance, Competitiveness and Public Policies, University of Aveiro.

- Scientific supervisor: Prof. Joaquim José Borges Gouveia

- Duration of the grant: This is a 12 months limited term non-tenure accruing position. The grant is due to start in March 1st, 2012, eventually renewable up to a maximum of 12 months contingent on availability of funding and satisfactory performance.

- Monthly allowance: The amount of grant will be € 1.495. A limited budget will also be available for eventual conference attendances.

- Methods of selection: Evaluation criteria and methods shall be as follows:Curriculum Vitae - (50%); Research plan - (45%); References (5%), with a maximum of 100 points.The Jury may select a maximum of three applicants, with the highest awarded points, for an interview at the Research Unit. This interview will grant the selected applicants with extra points (maximum: 20).The Jury may consider the applications to be below the desirable quality levels, and suggest closing this call without any selected applicant.

- Form of advertising/notification of results: The final evaluation results will be made public through the Research Unit's website and the approved applicant will be notified by email.

- Application deadlines: From December 14th 2011 to January 31st 2012.

- To apply, the following documents must be sent:

(1) Curriculum vitae and brief letter of presentation with a statement of research interests;

(2) The list of publications together with a brief description of the applicant's contribution to each paper (when co-authoring);

(3) A comprehensive description of the work the applicant considers to be able to do, and particularly his/her contribution to the development of the research in this field (max. 2000 words);

(4) Two reference letters (directly emailed by referees or with easily verified authenticity);

(5) Other information considered relevant for your application (namely, copies of degree certificates).
