Required education Level and research experience
The prospective candidates must hold a Master degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Geography, Geographic Information Systems or similar areas. The candidate must have experience in Geographic Information Systems.
Further desirable skills include: experience with species distribution models, conservation planning tools (e.g. Marxan or Zonation), data analysis and programming in R computing environment, ability to work in a team environment, motivation to work in the Biological Conservation field, proficiency in written/spoken English and communication skills.
Position description
GenePlan Project aims at developing pioneering approaches and tools to incorporate evolutionary processes into systematic conservation planning. These approaches will be applied in a case-study considering amphibians and reptiles of the Iberian Peninsula. The ultimate objective is to identify priority areas for the conservation of herptiles species which assure persistence of the evolutionary processes that generate and maintain biodiversity.
The successful candidate will collaborate in different project tasks including:
a) Identify priority areas for conservation of evolutionary processes;
c) Participation in meetings with project members)
d) Collaboration in writing scientific papers and technical reports.
