O evento do Centro de Investigação em Ciências da Saúde tem como objetivo divulgar a investigação realizada no CICS-UBI e está aberto à participação de todos os interessados. Entre os participantes estarão investigadores, académicos, profissionais de saúde e estudantes de todas áreas: biomédica, biotecnologia e medicina.

It is our great pleasure to invite you to the XIV CICS-UBI ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM 2019 to be held at the Faculty of Health Sciences (FCS) of University of Beira Interior, Covilhã, on July 4-5th.
The CICS-UBI Symposium aims to disseminate the research carried out at our Centre and is opened to the participation of internal and external participants, gathering together researchers, members of academia, health professionals and students from all fields of biomedical research, biotechnology, and drug development.
The research carried out at CICS-UBI is focused on the characterization of the molecular mechanisms underlying the onset and progression of neurologic and neurovascular diseases, endocrine-related disorders, and cancer, as well as, on the development of new diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic approaches. These non-communicable diseases account for high mortality, morbidity, and disability worldwide, and their incidence and prevalence are expected to increase in consequence of population ageing, lifestyle and environmental influences. Our research Centre, joining basic and applied research is in a privileged condition to face unmet needs in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, and improve human health and quality of life.
Abstracts to the CICS-UBI Symposium 2019 will be accepted on the following topics: i) Biopharmaceuticals and Biomaterials; ii) Biomedicinal Chemistry and Drug Research; iii) Hormones and Metabolism; iv) Neurologic and Neurovascular Disorders; and v) Clinical Investigation. The scientific program covers all the spectrum of health sciences research, and include plenary lectures, oral presentations, and poster sessions. Several cultural moments and the Symposium Dinner are also part of the program.
The symposium venue is located at the FCS Auditorium with a privileged location at the Covilhã city, near the commercial zone, transports, and hotel units, and offering plenty of car parking places. Covilhã is a friendly city in the heart of Cova da Beira, located on the eastern slope of Serra da Estrela at about 700 meters altitude, offering to those who visit a beautiful landscape framed in a majestic amphitheatre of mountains. Apart from the scientific program, we suggest you take the opportunity to travel around and see the superb scenery of Serra da Estrela, Serra da Gardunha, and the surrounding historic villages.
