Sandra Soares, PhD, is an experienced physicist with a strong background in research, education, and international collaboration. She holds advanced academic qualifications, including a PhD and an MSc in Physics, both awarded by the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Lisbon.
She is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Beira Interior (UBI), where she also coordinates the Master''s Programme in Physics and Chemistry Teaching. In addition to her teaching role, she leads the LabExpoRad Laboratory at UBIMedical-UBI and is an active researcher at the Laboratory of Instrumentation and Experimental Particle Physics (LIP-Lisbon). She works closely with several research centres, including the Centre for Mathematics and Applications (CMA-UBI), and has developed strong partnerships with national and international institutions.
Dr Soares has coordinated and participated in several competitive research projects, many of them involving international teams, with a focus on interdisciplinary and applied physics. Her research interests include Nuclear Physics, High-Energy Physics, Solid State Physics, and the applications of Physics in Medicine. More recently, her work has focused on Ionising Radiation Physics, particularly its impact on health and environmental safety.
She has successfully supervised numerous PhD and MSc students and has led academic and outreach projects involving both university students and secondary education. Her teaching and mentoring are complemented by contributions to curriculum development and academic governance.
Her achievements include the publication of Physics exercise books for secondary education, frequent peer reviewing for scientific journals, and the organisation of international conferences and workshops.
